Founded in the 7th century, the town of Munster grew
up round a Benedictine abbey. An imperial town in the Alsatian Decapole, it became a flagship of the textile industry in the 18th century. The town then chose to promote its many cultural, sporting and tourist assets... leading to its well-deserved titles of Holiday town and Green holiday Resort!
«Man of Gunshach and citizen of the world» : this is how Albert Schweitzer
described himself. Gunsbach is where you will find his
family home, which now retraces the life of the Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Another must : the Memorial
museum of Linge, a First World War battlefield. This
restored site pays tributs to a battle which cost the
lives of 17,000 French and German soldiers. To find out everything about the valley, vou must visit the Vallée de Munster tourist information office, just a stone's throw from the «Maison du Parc Naturel Régional des Ballons des Vosges» (Ballons des Vosges regional nature park house).
